The third stage is when our minds challenge us the most. It tries to convince us that we don’t have enough energy to keep going and that we should stop.
But that’s a fake idea. Osho says we have an infinite source of energy within us. It’s only a matter of making a total commitment to meditation.
Osho says,
“The energy within you is infinite. If you think that you have so little energy and that you will get tired so easily, you are mistaken.
“There are three levels of energy in the human body. The outermost layer is for day-to-day activity. It is like the small change that you carry in your pocket: it is not all the money you have; it is just pocket money that you use for minor expenses, a few rupees.
“It is for your daily activity – for sitting, standing, walking, eating, digesting, sleeping, working. This is your superficial energy, the small change in your pocket. When you start meditating this energy is exhausted almost immediately, because you are not accustomed to using it for meditation.
“This is a new level of activity that has begun. Now if you listen to this tiredness and stop meditating, you will never be able to totally enter meditation. Don’t listen to it. If you go on with the meditation, then you will soon find that the second level of energy has become available to you.
“You have experienced this phenomenon many times. You were about to go to bed at night, you were overcome with exhaustion, so sleepy that you could barely keep your eyes open, and you suddenly discover that your house is on fire! Do you think you can sleep after that? Do you say, “I am too sleepy?” No, your sleepiness will totally disappear. Where has all this new energy come from?
“You are just dozing, and if someone asks you to read the Gita to them you will say, “No friends, it is too difficult.” You can ignore the Gita, but now that your house is on fire you are running around to put the fire out. And even when the fire is out, you won’t sleep that night.

Here’s the three levels of energy Osho talks about.
First Layer: The Mind/Daily Energy
What it is: Pocket change. The energy you use for normal life.
Used for: Sitting, standing, walking, eating, working, sleeping.
How it feels: This is what gets tired first when you meditate. It’s small and runs out quickly.
Trap: If you stop meditating when you feel tired, you never go deeper.
Second Layer: The Soul/Reserve Energy
What it is: Your treasure. The backup energy.
Example: Like when you’re exhausted at night, but if your house catches fire you suddenly have tons of energy to run and stay awake.
How it feels: When you push past the first tiredness in meditation, this kicks in. You stop feeling tired no matter how much you do.
Limit: This can also get exhausted if you keep using it.
Third Layer: Existential Energy
What it is: Not yours. It belongs to existence.
How it feels: Inexhaustible, eternal. It never dries up.
How you reach it: You have to “exhaust” the first 2 layers.
This is when we become a siddha — “one who has come home.” You are one with the whole. You can finally truly relax.
Hence, in the third stage, don’t listen to your mind. Don’t quit at tiredness. You do have an infinite pool of energy within.
